New country park path from Barrhead

27 June 2011

A new path has been built to make it easier for Barrhead residents to get to the country park. The path starts at Springfield Road, in between Aurs Road and St Luke's High School. A ten minute walk, or five minute cycle, takes you over the railway and into the country park at Balgray Reservoir. The new route connects with the existing Balgray Reservoir path, which in turn links to the rest of the Barrhead dams on the other side of Aurs Road. If you continue on past the Barrhead dams you pass through Waulkmill Glen and Darnley Mill, eventually coming out at the Ashoka restaurant on Nitshill Road.

If you go from Springfield Road, Barrhead to Nitshill Road, Darnley, you will have crossed the country park from south to north, four miles in total.

Funding to support the cost of the path came from Go Barrhead, part of the Scottish Government's Smarter Choices Smarter Places initiative.
